LIAM MANNING says Bristol City have surged into the play-off places — despite being weakened in the January transfer window.

The only New Year business done at Ashton Gate involved the loan exits of Rob Atkinson, Kal Naismith and Fally Mayulu (inset, top to bottom).

While that may have reduced Manning's options, the manager also believes it brought his squad even closer together.

And the outcome has been an impressive run that could see them in the end-of-season shake-up.

Since the turn of the year the Robins have lost just three of 17 league games.

And Tuesday's victory over play-off rivals West Brom moved them up to fifth with five games to go ahead of today’s trip to QPR.
