Govt 'hypocrisy over pensioners

TREASURY chief Darren Jones has been branded a hypocrite after appearing to U-turn on a promise not to slash winter fuel payments.

The Labour MP, who is Rachel Reeves’ deputy, wrote to then- chancellor Jeremy Hunt last year over fears some pensioners might be “stripped” of the payment.

He pleaded: “Pensioners mustn’t be forced to bear the brunt of Tory economic failure.”
