DOGGY detectives could provide vital DNA evidence to convict criminals.

Forensic science researchers say samples from dogs could make each mutt a witness to a crime scene.

The study, published in the journal Genes, collected human DNA from 20 furry friends.

The tests showed that critical evidence can be retrieved from all areas of the pets, although the head and back provided the most.
