The Spanish superstar retained his title in the first ever match tiebreak in Paris after five hours and 29 minutes. The Wimbledon champion, who claimed his fifth Grand Slam title, said: “It was amazing. Being two sets to love down against world No.1, the level Jannik was playing was unbelievable.

“It is the first time I have come back from two sets down.

“Honestly, I just put my heart into it and tried to keep going. I put my best tennis in the fourth set and then the fifth was about not giving up.
