Greg Childs, who launched CBBC and CBeebies, which screens iconic kids’ shows including the Teletubbies, said our children no longer learn about British culture through TV as our shows have “diminished”.

Instead, youngsters here are “spending a lot of time learning about yellow school buses” as US TV “dominates” screens.
