ANGE ESCAPES ROASTING

AFTER home substitute Nathan Tshikuna had inadvertently given Spurs the lead in extra time, to a man, the visiting players looked a little embarrassed.

It had taken a scruffy, fortunate goal to break non-league resistance and send the Premier League side on their way to the fourth round.

But actually, to call it non-league resistance would be to do Andy Peaks' side a severe injustice.

And what a shame the scrapping of replays at this stage of the competition denied them the chance of a night under London lights.

For one hundred minutes, Tamworth had more than matched Tottenham and even had a squeak of winning it in the dying stages of normal time.

That further goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson gave the scoreline an emphatic look was cruel.

In the end, the infinitely greater resources enjoyed by Spurs in particular, their greater fitness levels - produced a predictable result, but Tamworth were excellent.

After a quintessentially non-league prelude to the kick-off- a five-minute delay while one of the goal nets was mended - it really was hard to tell the elite from the obscure.
