THE famous Grand National fences may not be quite as fearsome as in the past, but they still reward slick jumping and NOCTE VOLATUS (2.40) is the selection to land the Grand Sefton Chase at Aintree this afternoon.

He is fairly lightly raced but has proven himself more than capable of competing at this level, finishing second in two Class 2 chases last season off a mark only 1lb lower than he runs off here.

Crucially for this challenge, he is very skilled over an obstacle. When he finds his rhythm in a race, it proves a real asset against his rivals. His career level Jump Index of 7.9 is the highest rating in this field today, and looking back through his races in the RaceiQ database, you can see how much of a benefit his jumping has been giving him.
