Rise of the red, white and boos

HELLO humans! Well, the holidays are drawing to a close, which means two big things.

Firstly autumn is upon us - time to pack away the Ambre Solaire and get out your trench coats, ready for nine months of biblical rain.

And secondly, it's the climax of so-called Silly Season in the news, when headlines can be grabbed by even crazier stories than usual.

Thank goodness then for this fine newspaper with its much-needed sanity and rational thinking.

When it comes to silly stories, I'd been wondering if this summer was turning out to be a bit of a damp squib.

Oh Me of Little Faith! I needn't have worried. Because bang on cue has come a real humdinger of newsy nonsense.

I'm referring to the Flagdemic.
