In fact Florence Welch delved deep into the world of the occult and dredged classic horror moods for her latest opus.

Fresh from landing a fifth No1 she explained: "It's interesting to me that this is one of my darkest records.

"In times of great chaos or change people have often turned to the Gothic. I was thinking about Mary Shelley's Frankenstein or the Brönte sisters."
