CARRICK FACES REMINDER OF UNITED TASK

MICHAEL CARRICK need only look at the opposing dugout tomorrow night for a reminder of the task that still faces him at Manchester United.

As far as Old Trafford lineage is concerned, Carrick would have been nowhere near the United hotseat had the club's masterplan to succeed the great Sir Alex Ferguson worked out.

But the ill-fated campaign that followed in 2013-14, which started under current Everton boss David Moyes (above), perhaps gave Carrick the greatest insight into what has become the impossible job.

Ten managers, including Carrick as well as interim and caretaker bosses, have now followed Moyes's failed stint, during which time the former midfielder played 25 times in the Premier League under the Scot.
