Tom tells girlfriend it's time to hit north

- BY ANTHONY EVANS

LATEST Aberdeen recruit Tom Mcintyre endured a whirlwind 24 hours that saw him rip up his contract at Portsmouth to make the move to Pittodrie.

And the defender admits he had to break the news to his girlfriend that he would be heading north of the border while she was still asleep.

The centre-back was unveiled as a Dons player on Tuesday morning on a short-term deal until the end of the season and, having left Pompey, McIntyre was able to complete the move on a free transfer after Monday's 11pm deadline.

He has described the chain of events that led him to Pittodrie as a "rollercoaster" and admits he has sympathy for his partner after informing her that he had turned down an offer from another English Football League club.
