UNNAMED DEAD NOT FORGOTTEN

THOUSANDS of forgotten dead in a famous burial ground, including a revered Scots composer, have been remembered at a two-day commemoration event.

The Necropolis, known as Glasgow's "silent city of the dead" came alive with song and celebration of the lives of the thousands who lie in paupers' graves in the east end cemetery.

Folk singer Siobhan Miller performed as part of the weekend memorial dubbed Glasgow Requiem, with the public planting a wildflower meadow in an area where 8000 unnamed bodies were buried over almost 200 years ago.

The event included poetry readings and wildflower seed sowing from Liverpudlian urban gardening organisation Scouse Flowerhouse.
