Back to the 80s for a heart-rending tale of romance, loss and timeless tracks as Teresa Palmer and Jim Sturgess press play once again

- WORDS: JEN PHARO

Everyone remembers their first love-and their first album. New drama Mix Tape brings those two things together with a love story starring Jim Sturgess and Teresa Palmer as lovers Daniel and Alison.

Starting in 1989, this four-part series sees the pair fall in love, only to be ripped apart by circumstance.

"It's that young, youthful, visceral, very powerful young love that you experience for the very first time," explained Jim. "And it gets cut short when Alison, who's grown up in a slightly more difficult and broken family environment, has to leave Sheffield one day without any answers as to why that's happened. So it leaves Daniel with a huge, kind of unresolved, hole in his heart and in his life."

The younger versions of Daniel and Alison are played by Florence Hunt and Rory Walton-Smith, with Jim and Teresa playing the grownup characters.

"We catch up with the same two characters about 17 years later and we discover that they're now married with kids and seemingly moving on with their individual lives," added Jim.
