Jason Watkins and historian Tracy Borman reveal that research into one stone changes what we know about the iconic landmark
-
Actor Jason Watkins and historian Tracy Borman make a surprising discovery in the new documentary Stonehenge: Secrets of the New Stone - one that changes what scientists and historians have believed for more than a century about the ancient stone circle.
They uncover new research from Aberystwyth University that investigates the origin of the altar stone, the only stone that lies on its side, and learn that it comes from a different place than all the others that make up the famous monument.
"I knew that the smaller blue stones, that's the smaller ring of stones midway into the circle, were from Wales," Jason says. "What fascinated me was that they could pinpoint that exactly because of the DNA that they found. They found DNA itself in Stonehenge and it matched the DNA that they found in the holes in the ground where the rock was taken from, or the environment around where the rock was taken, and of course, they used that technology to understand that the altar stone was very different."
