Del's showing he knows more than any doubters
-
ABERDEEN'S fans could hardly wait to see the back of him.
And a large section of the Rangers support may still mistakenly believe their club to be too good for him.
So a penny for the thoughts of Derek McInnes right now, as he peers down on all the rest from his perch at the top of the Premiership's pile.
Let's be honest, there were even some hard core diehards at Tynecastle who were not overly enthusiastic when McInnes arrived from his temporary holding pen in Kilmarnock towards the end of last season.
But they're probably too embarrassed to pipe up and admit as much after watching their team race out of the blocks under the new man by securing 16 points from the first six games of the top-flight season.
Who knows if McInnes can go all the way and maintain a title challenge all the way until the end of his first campaign in the capital? But, regardless of what may or may not lie ahead, already he has done enough in his short time in charge to shove two fingers up in the face of all those who, for some absurd notion or another, question whether his brand of management is fashionable enough for the modern age.
When Rangers kicked off at Livingston yesterday afternoon Russell Martin's side was marooned in 11th place in the league table.
If Martin is some sort of tactical trend setter then the game has well and truly disappeared through a looking glass.
So far his only saving grace- if it can be deemed as such - has been the utter ineptitude of an Aberdeen team which crashed to another defeat at Motherwell on Saturday night having taken just one single point from the first 18.
So another penny then for the thoughts of those Dons fans who were agitating for change when McInnes was in charge at Pittodrie and even more for those of Dave Cormack, who was only too willing to cave in and give them what they wanted.
