Public urged to conserve supplies

SCOTS are being urged to use water more efficiently in a bid to protect resources.

Scottish Water said August was drier than normal, and it followed the country's driest spring in 70 years.

It said reservoir levels across Scotland are down by two per cent to 73 per cent this week - nine per cent lower than the average of 82 per cent for this time of year.

The east has been worst affected, with average reservoir levels down to 57 per cent - 24 per cent below the average of 81 per cent for this time of year.

Scottish Water said demand has increased by 100million litres per day.
