Plea for release of Air India crash bodies Only 47 of 270 killed have been identified

GRIEVING families of Air India plane crash victims last night demanded the bodies be released so the funerals can go ahead.

There was growing anger at the authorities over how long the identification process is taking.

Dozens of British people were among the 270 killed when Gatwick-bound Flight AI171 crashed shortly after take-off last Thursday.

Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the 38-year-old British father-of-one, who was sitting in seat 11A, was the sole survivor.

As of last night, 47 victims had been identified through DNA and the remains of only 24, none of them British, had been released.

At hospitals in Ahmedabad, there were distressing scenes as families pleaded for the remains to be released immediately.
