Chancellor under pressure to help struggling families by slashing energy costs

RACHEL Reeves has been urged to use her Budget to help slash energy bills.

Antipoverty campaigners want the Chancellor to make it easier for struggling families to heat their homes. Reeves is expected to raise taxes today in a bid to plug a £20billion-plus black hole and cut the UK's debt.

Expected measures include freezing income tax thresholds plus higher levies on gambling firm profits and a raid on pension savings.

Labour went into the general election promising to cut energy costs by £300 but typical annual bills are about £187 higher than they were.
