Parents who saw teens battered for clicks hail boost for new law

THE mums of two teenage girls whose brutal attacks were filmed and posted online have backed the progress of a Bill to ban social media for under-16s.

Vicky Donald and Katrina Lyden have welcomed a vote by the House of Lords to ban youngsters from using platforms such as Whatsapp, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok.

The vote, as part of the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, comes amid the Record’s Our Kids ... Our Future campaign, which has led calls for better safeguarding measures for children online.

Vicky, whose then 12-year-old daughter Kaylynn was filmed in a sickening bus attack on her way home from school in Lochgelly, Fife, in October 2021, said: "I'm delighted with this vote. Social media has, for years, been causing absolute destruction to children's lives.
