How Dutch trip has made Killie click

- BY MICHAEL BAILLIE

ONE FOR ALL AND Holl for one

GEORGE STANGER reckons going Dutch helped Stuart Kettlewell's new-look Kilmarnock squad bond - and tee up a last-16 cup clash with Dundee United.

The defender Stanger is one of 10 Rugby Park recruits after making the switch from Ayr.

And the 24-year-old admits their preseason training camp in the Netherlands was crucial in helping the new arrivals to settle in and the squad to gel.

Killie have got off to an impressive start under new boss Kettlewell as they secured top spot in Group H with a four-goal show against Dick Campbell's League One outfit.

New signings Marcus Dackers and Djenairo Daniels set them on their way before teenage sensation Ben Brannan scored either side of the interval.

And Stanger felt the display proved Kettlewell’s charges are beginning to click together ahead of kicking off their league campaign at home to Livingston in five days’ time.

Stanger said: “We had a week in Holland, which was good.

“You're all in the hotel and players are getting used to each other in the final third.

“We missed that on Tuesday in the 0-0 against Kelty but that improved here.

"We've been working hard on the training ground and we've done well defensively.

“But as a full unit, we knew the final bit would click and it was good to get that, get a positive result and get through to the next round.

“Everyone is just looking forward to the weekend.”

Brannan, 18, was a standout as he came up with two impressive finishes.
