New star loves her first ever TV role

EARLIER this year Beth Nixon was ready to quit acting - now she is the central character in one of Corrie's biggest storylines.

The 25-year-old plays Megan Walsh, a PE teacher who is grooming one of her pupils, 15-year-old Will Driscoll.

Describing her character as "the devil in disguise", Beth says she is enjoying getting her teeth into her first TV role.

"It's not been easy," she said. "I was really, really close to giving acting up.

"But getting this part was the universe saying, 'Don't give up, keep going"." Beth and the producers have worked alongside children's charity Barnardo's on the storyline, and she hopes it will help any viewers facing a similar situation to realise they are not unique.

She said: "I have done research on female paedophiles and it's shocked me how prevalent grooming is.

"It's completely wrong but by working with Barnardo's, we want people to know they aren't alone.

"Even if it is just one person that maybe realises they are in a similar situation, we've done our job." The storyline comes to a head over Christmas and Beth said: "Megan is the devil in disguise and we are going to really see how evil she is.

"She will stop at nothing and she will do anything she wants to stay on top.

"Everything she does is for a reason and it's to serve herself and nobody else.

You find yourself wanting to shout at the telly, at her, because she is so evil."
