Jean backs legal action after medics failed to warn people of surgery risks

PATIENTS given metal jaw ops which left one woman looking “like an alien" are planning legal action against a health board.

- BY SALLY HIND

NHS Tayside said sorry last year to 44 patients who were given a new type of metal jaw between 2005 and 2016, saying they were not told of the risks before surgery.

A report found the implants could lead to serious problems such as infections and arthritis.

And now a law firm has confirmed it is preparing a legal case over botched procedures.

Jean Milne, from Arbroath, told the Record in October how the procedure destroyed her life and left her face so badly swollen that she didn't recognise herself and looked “like an alien”.

The 58-year-old’s legal case has already been settled but she said she wants to see justice for dozens of others.

She said: “I know personally about some of these families who are struggling.

“There are worse off folk than me. Some are still to go through multiple operations. We've got to get justice.

“Tve already been to court and I've been able to come to terms with it more than other patients might, because of my court case.
