SCOTLAND faced a massive clean-up operation yesterday after Storm Amy hit.

But there is a bright side as the country is heading for a 10-day Indian summer that coincides with the October holiday.

Record low pressure which sparked 100mph winds is heading north, paving the way for high pressure to dominate our climate beyond the middle of the month.

This will mean dry, bright and in some places, sunny weather over the next two weekends.

The Met Office long-range forecast for the nine days from Thursday suggests some drizzle in the northwest of Scotland.

But it added: "The rest of the country will be dry and bright with some sunshine and fairly light winds. Thereafter, high pressure is expected to dominate for most if not all of the rest of the period, bringing plenty of dry, settled weather."

Wall-to-wall sunshine is forecast for Aviemore in the Highlands in the week from next Monday and Glasgow and Edinburgh have daily temperatures of 15C or 16C.
