First Minister's bills pledge shot down by rival parties

JOHN Swinney yesterday demanded more powers over energy to cut bills. But the First Minister clashed with Labour and the Tories over the contentious issue.

Later, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said she would not “trust” the FM to deliver on the bills promise.

Swinney vowed to draft a Section 30 order to acquire the responsibilities over energy on the first day if reelected as first minister.

The order would then have to be accepted and actioned by the UK Government - something they would be very unlikely to do.

Speaking during a visit to an oil rig, Badenoch said: “I do not trust John Swinney with Scotland's energy.
