Medication for debilitating condition not available for Scots women on NHS

A WOMAN who lost three babies due to a debilitating pregnancy sickness condition is demanding an end to postcode lottery misery in Scotland for a “miracle” drug.

Lauren Stenhouse, 33, from Boness, suffered hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) - whch causes severe nausea and vomiting, dehydration, weight loss and physical and emotional distress - in all three pregnancies.

Many women with HG become so ill they terminate planned pregnancies. Lauren said she felt like she was “going to die”.

Xonvea, the only drug licensed in the UK to treat it, is routinely available in parts of England but not in Scotland.

Lauren told the Record: “I vomited 50 times a day because of HG. During my third pregnancy, I lost a stone.
