Forbes stepping down was a family affair

KATE Forbes said she had to persuade her husband and father to back her move to leave frontline politics.

The Deputy First Minister struggled with a "sense of letting people down" when deciding against running at the Holyrood election in May.

Forbes, once tipped as a future leader of the SNP, announced her decision publicly last August.

Speaking to Holyrood magazine, she claimed she made the decision while in India with her family.
