Journalist Clive Myrie takes a very personal journey across Africa and celebrates the fascinating continent
-
During his years as the BBC's Africa correspondent, Clive Myrie fell in love with the vibrant continent.
Now he's returning for a new BBC show to find his roots after a DNA test revealed his ancestors most likely hailed from Africa's west coast.
In the series, Clive travels to South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Morocco but it is in Ghana that he takes part in a deeply emotional naming ceremony.
"The inspiration was to find out, potentially, where I come from, where my roots are in West Africa," shares Clive, 61. "I did a DNA test but it suggested that I was 30 per cent Nigerian and it is more than likely my family would have come from the west coast of Africa. So why not make a series looking at where I might have come from but also use that as a jumping-off point to tell a wider story of the vibrancy and brilliance of this amazing continent?"
