The Spaniard, 22, lost a first-set tiebreak to the American at the season-ending ATP Finals.
But he recovered to win 6-7(2) 7-5 6-3 in two hours and 48 minutes, meaning a victory over Lorenzo Musetti tomorrow will ensure Italian ace Jannik Sinner can't topple him in the rankings.
On being told he needs just one more victory, Alcaraz smiled and said: "I will try not to think about it. It's going to be a really big match for me. I will try not to let the nerves play a bad time in the match.
