Drowning victim fled the Taliban

A MAN who drowned in the River Tay while swimming with pals has been named as an asylum seeker who moved to Scotland three months ago.

Mohammad Akrami was on Perth's Moncreiffe Island when he and two friends got into difficulty on the evening of August 14.

Emergency crews were called and local man Stewart Miller raced out on a jet ski to try to help the trio.

But Mohammad was swept down the river.
