Doc sold stolen NHS PPE for £8000

A DOCTOR and her husband could be facing jail after making nearly £8000 in less than five months selling stolen hospital PPE on eBay during the first Covid lockdown.

Attiya and Omar Sheikh used four accounts on the internet selling site to flog personal protective equipment they knew had been pinched from the NHS between May and October 2020.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard 45-year-old Attiya Sheikh works as a doctor at East Kilbride’s Hairmyres Hospital while her 48-year-old husband works front-of-house at a family restaurant.

Police raided their family home in Thornliebank, near Glasgow, in October 2020 but Dr Sheikh wasn't home.

During the search, 121 boxes of NHS PPE, including blue medical gloves and facemasks, were found in the couple’s attic.

The Procurator Fiscal depute told the court: “It was noted by the officers the gloves were from a supplier named Fannin Ltd. They are a care essential brand company that sold a brand of gloves to the NHS.
