Brad got welcome boot from old pal

BRAD HALLIDAY admits he received a wake up and smell the coffee welcome to Scottish football after an ankle-clattering tackle from old mate Jake Young.

The Dundee midfielder's debut was marked by the red card flashpoint which provided the only memorable moment of a forgettable clash.

Young's 63rd-minute dismissal by referee Nick Walsh was also on the St Mirren new boy's first start with Halliday saying it provided an unexpected storyline for two players who were thick as thieves during their time at Bradford City.

He said: "I was disappointed for Jake to pick up the red card but in my opinion it probably is one, and he apologised for the challenge afterwards.

"We played at Bradford City, we were members of the coffee club together, so we're good friends and that's why he came to see me straight after the game.

"I just said, 'Don't worry about it, it's football.' Unfortunately for him he's going to miss a few games.

"He didn't mean to catch me. He's not meant to make that challenge but he's caught me a bit high.
