Weather alerts in force as Storm Claudia hits

IN North Wales, a yellow alert for rain remained in force yesterday for Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. It lasted until 6am this morning (Saturday).

In addition a yellow weather warning for wind is also in place for Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey, started at midday yesterday, lasting until midnight.

The Met Office has also extended an amber 'danger to life' warning for Wales. The alert was issued by the national weather agency on Thursday, which means there is an expectation that floodwater and rivers could cause a danger to life homes and businesses are also likely to be flooded and damaged.

It covers Mid and South Wales, affected counties include Powys, Monmouthshire. Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Torfaen. It comes into effect at 12 noon today and will remain in place until midnight.
