As a Welsh Conservative member, representing the Prestatyn Central ward, the council say Cllr Irving had a long and distinguished career in local government and public services.

Paying tribute to Cllr Irving, Welsh Conservatives' leader Cllr Brian Jones said: “Hugh Irving had dedicated his life to public service for near on 50 years, a truly magnificent achievement.

“He held many offices over the years as a Prestatyn Town and Denbighshire County councillor and excelled in every position he was appointed to. Hugh spoke to me two weeks ago regarding various council matters, and I could not help but notice that his wisdom and enthusiasm was still shining as bright as the stars at night even though his health was clearly failing. A true example then to us all here at the DCC family.

“He will be sadly missed by all his colleagues on the local political stage where his fountain of knowledge and words of wisdom were evident and acknowledged by all. Hugh certainly lived his life very much respected and has now sadly passed away.”

He added: “On behalf of the Denbighshire County Council Conservative Group, could we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Hugh's wife Jackie and his children at this difficult time for the family.”
