POLLUTION fears surfaced when a river turned yellow-brown as it flowed through a popular tourist village in Eryri (Snowdonia). Hours earlier, the Afon Llugwy in Betws-y-Coed had been reported 'crystal clear.'

Concerns were raised amid online speculation of a spill in a river that flows over the area's famous Swallow Falls (Rhaeadr y Wennol).

River users were first to raise the alarm on Saturday morning, December 28, and investigators promptly scrambled to the scene.
