NORTH Wales is set to swelter in a heatwave this weekend as temperatures soar. The region has seen some hot and sunny days so far this year, but it has not been sustained enough to meet the official criteria for a heatwave.

N.Wales set to swelter .. but take care in heat

That is defined by the Met Office as three consecutive days 'with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold.' The threshold changes for different parts of the UK, but for North Wales it is 25C.

But in the coming days it's forecast to uncomfortably exceed that threshold in North Wales for four days in eastern parts of the region, and at least three days for much of the rest. This will make it the first official heatwave of 2025.

People are being urged to take extra care in the heat to avoid dehydration or heat stroke. Today (Friday), the temperature really starts to ramp up, with the Wrexham area hitting 30C in the afternoon by 2pm, with other areas including Ruthin and Bala forecast to see 28C. Pwllheli and Barmouth will enjoy 25C temperatures, with the lowest again being the Holyhead area at 20C.
