Mayday as fishing boat swept onto rocks

A MAJOR rescue operation was launched early yesterday after a fishing boat crew sent a Mayday signal.

The incident began when the 33-ft vessel drifted onto rocks off Aberffraw yesterday morning.

HM Coastguard sent a rescue helicopter, three lifeboat crews and a coastguard rescue team to the scene on the south west of the island at about 10am. The vessel was found to be “listing” but the three people on board the fishing boat - two men and a woman - were able to clamber onto rocks.

Members of Rhosneigr coastguard team then escorted them on to the shore. The three people, who are believed to have been local, were unhurt by their ordeal.
