TO call itself Cornish, a pasty has to meet certain criteria. Most crucially, it needs to be made in Cornwall.

That’s because the Cornish pasty has PGI, which, as you may know, stands for Protected Geographical Something-or-other.

So a Cornish person who makes their own pasties at home, but whose house straddles the border with Devon, needs to be careful. If you make a pasty at the end of a kitchen that’s in Devon, don’t go thinking you can get away with calling it Cornish. Absolutely not.
