A COASTAL walker found himself alone and unable to phone for help after suffering multiple injuries in a nasty cliff fall at a remote Anglesey cove.

By chance, he was spotted on rocks below by passing sailors, who raised the alarm.

However, they then got into trouble while trying to help the injured man.

Their motorboat was left marooned and unable to make headway after its engine was damaged.

The two incidents sparked a multi-agency rescue, ultimately involving a coastguard helicopter.

Cliff teams and both Holyhead lifeboats also took part in the dramatic double rescue.

RNLI pagers sounded just after 3.40pm on Sunday, July 27. Crews were told a passing vessel had spotted the lone man on rocks at Ynys Y Fydlyn, a tidal island north of Porth of Porth Swtain (Church Bay). Its quirky profile has led to it being dubbed “Elephant Rock”.
