'DANGEROUS NIGHTMARE' FOR DRIVERS AND OTHERS

RESIDENTS were left fuming when scores of visitors parked illegally near a Denbighshire beauty spot.

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE Countryside and Tourism Editor

A long line of cars disrupted local traffic when parked on a narrow country lane near Horseshoe Falls, Llangollen.

Double yellow lines on the B5103 were ignored with some cars parking on blind bends. As the road is a main access route to Llantysilio and Rhewl, it was feared emergency vehicles would struggle to reach the rural communities.

In the past, farm vehicles have also been caught up the chaos, causing long tailbacks. Last weekend's sunshine brought "horrific" disruption with a near half-mile section of the road partially blocked.

Horseshoe Falls is a 140-metre weir designed by Thomas Telford to divert water from the River Dee into the Llangollen Canal. The picturesque site has become increasingly popular in recent years, attracting more than 100,000 visitors-a-year.

Denbighshire Council provides a pay-and-display car park for 25 vehicles. But at weekends and during the holidays it can struggle to cope. Online, one resident described last weekend's events as "beyond ridiculous", another said the narrow road had been turned into a "single track chicane".

One woman noted: "It's a dangerous nightmare for people living here trying to go about their daily business!"
