Business openings surpass closures

THE number of business births in Wales exceeded deaths in the first quarter of this year but only just, new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show.

In Q1 the number of businesses created in Wales was 2,890, up 860 on Q4 of 2024 and 190 on the year. There were 2,860 business deaths, up 460 on the previous quarter, but down 100 on the year.
For the UK as a whole there were 89,515 business births, a rise of 2.8% on Q1 2024.
