Beach car park closed to allow for funeral

VISITORS will be stranded on an idyllic Anglesey beach on what is expected to be one of the busiest weekend's of the year.

A traffic management trial will continue at Treath Llanddwn with beachgoers charged up to £15 for parking.

The brutal prices were introduced in May in a bid to stem the flood of visitors wanting a slice of paradise at the popular forest-backed beach, part of a National Nature Reserve.

As well as offering stunning views across the water to Eryri’s mountains, the beach provides access to Ynys Llanddwyn, an iconic tidal island celebrated for its romantic appeal.

Such is the beach's popularity, huge tailbacks of queuing cars often snake back along the country lane access route.

As the nearby village of Newborough often becomes snarled up, disrupting life for residents, site manager Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has more than doubled Llanddwyn’s daily parking charge in an attempt to reduce demand.

Also, NRW now closes the car park altogether at busy times.
