CURIOUS beach-goers looked on as a woman armed with two sticks, rope and a rake began drawing in the sand.

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE

Five hours later, onlookers were none the wiser.

Only from above could the impressive results be seen.

A drone flying over Llanddona beach on Anglesey revealed the unmistakable outline of Y Ddraig Goch, the national emblem of Wales.

The 100ft-wide Welsh dragon was created by an artist who was raised on Anglesey and is now residing in Bethesda, Gwynedd.

Hannah Karen Black, 49, spent 20 years in Portugal before returning home to further her artistic ambitions.

Her portfolio spans multiple disciplines, but when in Portugal she was celebrated for her sand art.

All her artworks were created freehand and most involved mandalas, the circular, geometric designs from Hindu and Buddhist cultures.

But for her giant dragon, a new technique was needed as her old freestyle approach wouldn't suffice. It was a practice run for a potential commission involving a protest design on a Welsh beach - she can't reveal what except to say it will be big.
