Municipality faces backlash over spilled sewage

RESIDENTS of Port Shepstone are grappling with an unbearable stench coming from untreated sewerage in the nearby Umbango Stream.

Frustration was palpable in the community as locals accused the municipality of chronic inefficiency, compounding fears about their health and wellbeing.

As complaints mount, residents like Zanele Magwaza expressed their dismay over the declining quality of life in the area.

"While all this is happening, we are getting sick," she told the Daily News.

"We end up discovering that we suffer from unknown illnesses due to the pollution.

"The slow action from the municipality makes things worse. We inhale this gas every day, and it's not good for our health."

Magwaza added that many residents who paid their taxes felt neglected, as they experienced the lack of basic service delivery in their communities.

The situation also brought worry and concern for local businesses as well.
