PIP ELIGIBILITY CHANGES

The most controversial change announced is the tightening of eligibility for Personal Independence Payments, which is paid regardless of employment status.

One element of the support is designed to help people with everyday tasks, such as eating and drinking, using the toilet and bathing.

But under government plans, some people will lose their entitlement as the ministers focus the benefit on “those with higher needs”.

A leak of the government's plans to reform sickness and disability benefits also contained proposals to freeze PIP.

This would have essentially meant a real-terms cut to the benefit next year, but this has now been ruled out.
