Now Tories call for action against PPE scandal peer

- BY ASHLEY COWBURN Deputy Political Editor

KEMI Badenoch says Michelle Mone has brought “shame” on the Tories with her links to scandal-hit PPE Medpro.

The Conservative leader's comments came after the firm was ordered to repay over £121 million for breaching a Covid PPE contract.

Baroness Mone, who is on a leave of absence from the Lords, had the Conservative whip removed in 2022 by ex-PM Rishi Sunak.

Yesterday, his successor as Tory leader said: “They should throw the book at her.”

Ms Badenoch added: “Michelle Mone is not a Conservative peer. She has had the whip removed because she did something wrong.

“She brought embarrassment and shame to the party, and made people think she got contracts because she was a Conservative. Absolutely not the case.”
