JAMES TARKOWSKI was left to rue Everton's failure to keep the shackles on Erling Haaland.

The Toffees' impressive display against the Norway goal machine lasted for almost an hour before arguably the world's best centre-forward scored with his first chance.

Just once this season has he failed to find the net, in City's 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham but, other than that, he's now struck 23 goals for club and country.

After Everton spurned the most inviting chances of the first half at the Etihad, Haaland broke the deadlock on 58 minutes, with an expertly executed header from Nico O'Reilly's left-wing cross. His second came five minutes later.
