Top Tory under fire over legal work for Abramovich amid £2.5bn Ukraine fight

A TORY frontbencher is acting as a lawyer for Roman Abramovich while the government pursues the ex-Chelsea owner for £2.5billion.

The Russian oligarch has yet to hand over the agreed nine-figure sum he agreed would aid Ukraine, raised by the sale of the football club.

Lord David Wolfson, the Shadow Attorney General, is representing Mr Abramovich in a case in Jersey.

The crown dependency’s government is probing the source of some £5.3bn in assets linked to Mr Abramovich that are held there.

Earlier this month Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned the billionaire of legal action if he does not hand over the Chelsea sale proceeds.

It is understood Mr Abramovich has argued the transfer cannot happen until the Jersey case ends.

Labour Justice Minister Jake Richards sent a letter to Tory leader Kemi Badenoch protesting the apparent Lord Wolfson clash.
