Must not ignore Chinese threat
October 20, 2025

DESPITE what Kevin Maguire suggests (Mirror, October 13), criticising the Chinese Communist Party's suppression of human rights is not sinophobic, just as criticising repressive regimes and those who have committed crimes against humanity in the Middle East does not make you Islamophobic or antisemitic.
-
Tibetan Buddhists, Uyghur Muslims, supporters of democracy in Hong Kong, or anyone else who wants to express a political, personal or artistic position that could be interpreted as critical of the government, is brutally repressed by the CCP.
It is impossible for journalists to function normally in China. China is also incredibly aggressive in asserting invalid claims to ownership of the South China Sea, and in it exerts its economic, military and political power just as unpleasantly as Donald Trump does.
No matter how much we think we need to trade with them, their support for Putin, Iran and North Korea, their spying, their desire to undermine the West and their malign online activities make the CCP, but not the Chinese people, the enemy of the UK.
