MP's husband held in 'Chinese spy ring' probe

THE husband of a Labour MP was yesterday arrested over allegations of spying for China.

Lobbyist David Taylor, who is married to East Kilbride and Strathaven MP Joani Reid, was questioned last night after three men were taken into custody by counter-terror police.

Ms Reid insisted she has never had any reason to suspect Mr Taylor, 39, had broken the law.

In a statement in the Commons, Security Minister Dan Jarvis insisted there would be “severe consequences” if it was proven China attempted to interfere in the UK's sovereign affairs.

Ms Reid, who was elected to Parliament in 2024, said yesterday: “I have never been to China.

“I have never spoken on China or China-related matters in the Commons. I have never asked a question on China-related matters.
