Sir Gavin Williamson blasts Boris Johnson

SIR Gavin Williamson laid into his old boss Boris Johnson at the Covid-19 Inquiry, accusing him of delaying school closures and then giving “false hope” over a return to the classroom.

The former Education Secretary suggested the government was late preparing schools for closure and remote learning as the decision was made at the last minute by the PM.

He said Mr Johnson's reluctance to close schools in the first Covid wave meant the education department could not “go out and start consulting with lots of people as to what school closures will look like”.
